PROSPECTUS

            GOVT AIZAWL NORTH COLLEGE, established in 1988, is under the management of the Higher & Technical Education Department, Govt. of Mizoram and is permanently affiliated to Mizoram University. It is a co-educational higher institution of learning designed for the training of youth in preparation for life and service. It seeks to produce men and women of refined character, fruitful to the society and the nation, educated in a truly educational setting. Students of all castes and creeds are welcome; but every student is expected to recognize and respect the administrative spirit of the college, live and work in consonance with its academic and intellectual ideals. The motto of the College is Development through Education.

            The College is located at one of the choicest spots of Aizawl city, enjoying a temperature climate all the year round. Postal and transport facilities are available at just a stone’s throw from the College.

            The primary purpose of the College is to provide education and academic atmosphere conductive for the youths to grow in the knowledge of true learning. It stresses academic proficiency and endeavours towards the attainment of high moral and intellectual stability. It seeks to promote cosmopolitan outlook and attitude that are needed for integration, both for the nation and individual.

            A student’s organisation under the guidance of the Principal and Teaching Staff has been functioning to serve as liaison between the Administration and members of the College in matters that concern the common life of the students. The organisation shall supervise the various sports, social and cultural activities within the student’s body.

            Student have the advantage to take part in different activities through organistions such as National Service Scheme (NSS), National Cadet Corps (NCC), Adventure Club, Students’ Evangelical Union (SEU), Red Ribbon Club etc. as extra-Curricular Activities. Every year a number of Students are sent to participate in Camps, both within and outside the State. Students for such camps are selected on the basis of sincerity and performances, both in academics and conducts.

English is the medium of instruction in all classes except in vernacular and language courses in which mother tongue or foreign language may be used for clarity of instruction.

            In all academic matters, courses of studies, examinations, rules and regulations, prescriptions of Mizoram University are strictly followed. Accordingly, the college shall conduct internal exams in the form of class tests and assignment which shall be considered compulsory to all the students.

COLLEGE LIBRARY: The College library has computerised with SOUL 2.0 Software and the library had different collections covering various fields of subjects. Further, Library had an access to UGC-Infonet/E-resources of Inflibnet Institutional Repository. And, library user’s education and information literary programme has been conducted for new comers Access of internet has been made available to the staff and students through the Computer systems provided in the Library.

1. GENERAL NORMS:

            Dress and general appearance of the students must be in good taste. Drinking of liquor, use of drugs, smoking etc. are strictly prohibited within the college campus.

            Each student must have a College Identity Card and a Library Card, which are available in the college, and renew the Cards for each academic Session. Released of Scholarship, borrowing of Library Books etc. will be made only on production of these Cards.

            Students wishing to take Transfer Certificate will have to clear all the College dues up to the end of the running Academic Year.

            Students must be endeavour to secure an attendance average of 75% for each semester of all working days. If any student is absent from class for more than 10 consecutive days without the consent of the Principal, his/her name may be removed from the roll.

2. ADMISSION CRITERIA:

i) For admission to the Six Semesters Degree Course, a candidate is required to pass in the Higher Secondary Examination or its equivalent conducted by any recognized Board of the State or Central Government.

ii) Candidates passing with Vocational courses, the equivalence may be decided by the College Principal.

3. PERMISSIBLE CHANCES:

i) No candidate shall be allowed to appear in any course beyond ten   semesters (5 years) from his/her first admission.

ii) A candidate shall be permitted to proceed from the First Semester up to Final Semester irrespective of his/her failure in any of the semester examination subject to the condition that the candidates shall appear for all the arrear papers of each course(s) along with the concerned semester examinations.

4. CONDUCT OF EXAMINATION:

i) There shall be six End-semester Examinations for the Six Semester Degree Course all of which shall be conducted by the University.

ii) Each College shall have a Moderation Board/Committee to moderate the marks awarded to a candidate through Continuous Internal Assignment. The marks awarded in each semester (continuous internal assessment) shall forward to the CEO, by online entry and finalized before 10 days of the completion of each end semester examination.

5. CHANGE OF CORE & SUBJECT COMBINATION:

            Change of Core subject shall not be allowed without the permission of the Principal, and Head of Department of the concerned departments. Subject combinations one opted cannot be changed after the commencement of the class.

6. REGISTRATION:

            A candidate shall be required to register under Mizoram University before the First Semester Examination.

7. MIGRATION:

            Migration from other institutions of the University beyond First Semester Examinations may be allowed only on the merit of each case, provided the approval from Mizoram University is obtained.

8. TRANSFERS:

            Local transfers are not allowed. Other transfers shall be allowed only on the merit of each case, provided the candidate obtains permission from the University and Principals of both the concerned Colleges.

9. CANDIDATURE FOR EXAMINATION:

Application may be forwarded by the Principal testifying –

  1. The eligibility of the candidate to appear in the examination;
  2. The good conduct of the candidate;
  3. The satisfactory progress of the candidate in studies during the course;
  4. That the Candidate’s attendance is not less than 75%

10. FEES:

            Each student is required to pay such fees as imposed by the University/College, the amount of which may be change from time to time.

11. SUBJECTS AVAILABLE FOR THE STUDY IN THE COLLEGE:

            Each student is required to opt compulsory the following courses in addition to the Core and two elective subjects

i)  English (FC) – I for First Semester   

 ii) English (FC) – II for Second Semester

 iii) Modern Indian Language (MIL)/Alt. English for Third Semester

iii) Environmental Studies (EVS) for Fourth Semester

12. INTERNAL CONTINUOUS EVALUATION:

            Continuous evaluation has been practiced in the college. 25% of marks in each Subject are allotted for internal assessment. Students shall appear for 75 marks external examinations at the end of each semester. Internal assessment is made from at least two Tests, Assignment, Attendance and other performances.

The total marks of all the six semesters combined will be 2400

STUDENTS’ UNION: The Student Union has been functioning actively in the College. All the enrolled students of this college are considered members of the union.

NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME (NSS): The College has NSS unit which functions as a platform for Students involvement in Social Development. All student enrolled in the college are considered as NSS volunteers. Awareness Campaign, Blood Donations, Plantations and other Special Campings have been Organised in which willing students can make contributions towards the good of the Society.

NATIONAL CADET CORPS (NCC): A number of students have been participating in the NCC through this college. Participations at State and National levels have been made during the last 15 years. Training Courses, Expeditions etc. have been often organised.

ADVENTURE CLUB: A College-based Adventure Club named Lengteng Youth Adventure Club, which has a National level recognition, has been set up. Lots of Students have undergone Adventure Courses/Trainings such as Mountaineering, Expeditions etc.

RED RIBBON CLUB: Red Ribbon Club had been functioning actively. The Club organises awareness drives, concerned mainly with Youths and their problems in the Modern Society.

            Apart from these, the following Clubs has been established recently and started functioning actively. Any students who are interested in it could enroll and participate in any of these clubs. Such as-
